In this drawing you can see some of the many ways people cause indirect pollution. These people are mowing, watering, and fertilizing their yards. Nearby a car is leaking oil. See that drain that leads to the sewer? The water, oil, and fertilizer will end up in there. Sewer drains lead right into the Fox River. Wherever you live, sewers drain right into the nearest body of water (which for many people is the Fox River).
This is a picture of a sprayer used to spray chemicals. Those chemicals could very easily end up in the Fox River.
These houses are right next to the Fox River. If they spray chemicals or spread fertilizer on their lawns it will go right into the Fox River.
