Children, ages three through five years old who
are at-risk of academic failure, are provided quality preschool. The
Illinois State Board of Education funds this preschool at no cost to
families and children.
Children and families are screened to ensure
eligibility. Once eligibility is determined, Summit School Early Learning
Center provides all preschool services, including parent education and
special programs.
This program uses Early Learning Standards to
build lesson plans designed with incremental learning. Teachers
implement curriculum, which focuses on child involvement and hands-on
experiences.
Each child develops at his/her own pace. Teachers
help each child to build upon his/her current development, recognizing
individual differences and supporting each child to reach planned
goals.
Children are assessed each quarter to evaluate
their progress in literacy and readiness skills.
